January 2017 - news

"The “Mad Men” star was in the crowd at Busch Stadium and was found by the Roenick for an NBC interview. While talking about the Blues’ past and their lack of Cups, Hamm brought up Roenick’s missed opportunities to win a title of his own. Some subtle Blues fan on Blackhawks legend trolling, perhaps?"

WILL WIN: Honestly, who the hell knows with this category. The Globes' nomination period is off-kilter enough that the previous winner in this category is Jon Hamm in Mad Men, a show that feels like it went off the air five years ago. In that light we're giving the gold to newcomer Billy Bob Thornton for Goliath's first season, figuring the veterans will split the vote.

JK: John is a fanatic. He watches almost everything. I’m obsessed with this show Younger. It was created by my friend Darren Star. Game of Thrones, of course. Best TV ever. When David Benioff comes to the restaurant, it’s as if God himself is coming in. I send over stuff. I try to be there that night. He’ll sit and talk to me about the show. He is so low key, and Amanda (Peet, his wife) is so low key. They’re amazing. I’m always, like, “Tell me what happens,” and, of course, he never does. But he will tell me about things that have happened. I’m very sad that Mad Men is over. I loved it. Jon Hamm is at Tower Bar all the time. He’s so handsome and great. But John and I don’t really stop in at the restaurant that much. We really don’t go out.

Speaking of men, she remains close to her Mad Men co-stars. She tells me she and John Slattery are tied at the top of the Fantasy Football League she plays with the Mad Men boys: “We don’t play for money. If we win, we just get to gloat. It’s how we keep in touch.” And Jon Hamm in particular is a pal. “The problem with working with January,” Hamm has joked, “is that she is so damn hideous!”

Even celebrities can get starstruck! Both Zoe Saldana and Sienna Miller experienced that first hand on Sunday night at the Golden Globes.
"I found myself backstage in a kind of semi-huddle with Brad Pitt, Ben Affleck, and Jon Hamm, which was quite surreal. It was exciting," Miller gushed to ET's Carly Steel at the Los Angeles premiere of her new film, Live By Night, on Monday.

"It's quite nerve-wracking. I was backstage and it was Brad Pitt, and Ben Affleck and Jon Hamm. That in itself was a pretty nerve -inducing experience," she laughed. "It was like, 'There is too much beauty in this room!'"

Pitt’s pal Matt Damon enthusiastically led the cheers from the crowd. The bustle in the audience was obvious. If Brad wasn’t standing on a stage, things probably would’ve gone further. Damon would’ve hoisted Brad onto his shoulders and run through the A-list crowd, high-fiving Jon Hamm on the way past.

I grew up a huge hockey fan and a St. Louis Blues die-hard, so it’s an absolute dream come true to host THE NHL100, where I’ll be among the best players to ever play the game that I love so much,” said Hamm in a statement. To share a stage with the NHL legends I idolized as well as the best players in the league today will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I can’t wait to bring this unique hockey celebration to my second hometown — Los Angeles.”

Groomer Kim Verbeck, 46, and actor Jon Hamm, 45, started working together long before Don Draper was even a thing. “It was 2006, on an Interview magazine shoot, and Mad Men hadn’t yet debuted,” says Hamm. “Kimmy has been ‘my people’ ever since.”
GLAMOUR: What’s the best part about working with Jon?
Kim Verbeck: Jon’s very loyal. And he’s always on time.
Jon Hamm: Some boys are particular about how they look. I’m not.

GLAMOUR: There isn’t anything you are particular about, Jon?
JH: I’ve always had weird hair, and it’s never looked good.
KV: So wrong! All I do is add dry shampoo—it gives it body.
JH: It’s funny when guys don’t like to talk about makeup. I’m like, “You know you’re wearing makeup, right? We all are.”
KV: For Jon I use a tinted oil-free moisturizer and a little powder for shine. And just a little concealer under the eyes.
JH: None of us are George Clooney and get to just put some dirt on our face.

Lulu was far from the only famous face to have a cameo role in the movie: Kate Moss, Joan Collins, Jerry Hall and Dame Edna Everage were all present and correct.
But there was one person on Ab Fab who left Mad Men fan Lulu pink and blushing.
She said: “I always had a big crush on Jon Hamm. I was a wee bit shy with him.
“I’ve never really grown up. He’s so cool and I’m still that 15-year-old girl.”

The Acura Studio will host premiere parties and dinners for movies including Fun Mom Dinner, starring Adam Scott, Paul Rudd, Molly Shannon and Toni Collette, and always features selfie-ready fans outside trying to get a picture with their favorite stars. Expect to see Jon Hamm, Paul Rudd, Geena Davis and many more speaking in the studio!

Jon Hamm will become the first actor to be turned into a lifelike 3D hologram for virtual and augmented reality at the Sundance Film Festival.
The Mad Men star, who plays a hologram named Walter Prime in the Sundance movie Marjorie Prime, is getting the anthropomorphizing treatment from 8i, a New Zealand- and Los Angeles-based tech company and hologram pioneer. The Hamm hologram will make its first appearance at the Passage Pictures film's premiere afterparty on Jan. 23.
The photo-realistic rendition, which was created by 8i and directed by Rogue Rubin, offers volume and depth, making it look and feel as if talking with the actor. To make matters more confusing, Hamm will be on hand at the party, creating a futuristic conundrum for the age-old set-up: Which one is real, and which one is the imposter?

Hamm attends the SundanceTv and The Hollywood Reporter Festival Kick Off Party on Jan 20, Utah.

Jon Hamm on The Dan Patrick Show

...after Game 5 of the World Series at nearby Wrigley Field that culminated in Murray taking Hamm's Cardinals hat off his head and tossing it in an alley, Hamm admitted after sports radio host Dan Patrick inquired about it on his show.
"Is this story starting to get traction?" the St. Louis native laughed.
First, the back story: Hamm famously trolled Cubs fans at Games 3, 4 and 5 at Wrigley wearing a Cardinals cap with the team's logo from 1908, the last time the Cubs had won a World Series and a source of anxiety for some curse-weary fans.
As Hamm tells it, "I had been there in Chicago for (Games) 3 and 4 and 5. And as you may know, Mr. (Joe) Buck is a friend of mine and he was calling all the games for the big network. And he said, 'Come meet us over at the place next to the stadium.' And I was there by myself -- I was watching the game by myself -- so I said, 'OK, I will.' and I met him over there and the usual suspects are there.
"And the Murray boys — and girls, the whole Murray family was there — and Billy grabbed my hat and threw it over the wall into the alley and so I had to go through a door and pick up my hat out of the alleyway and put it back on and walk back into the party. It was very funny."

Jon Hamm Talks Super Bowl 51, NHL & More in Studio

When asked where Don Draper is right now, he joked that he’s “six feet under” unless he made a serious lifestyle change at the end of the show, but he doubts it. “I don’t think that stuck. I don’t think that Zen moment of understanding of anything really stuck. That leopard is not changing his spots.” Though Eisen pushes back that the ending gives you the impression that he was about to change. Hamm replies that he thinks, “it was more about, he just had a really good idea for a commercial.”
“I thought it was a very poetic and very nice way to end the show, and also very cryptic, which also sticks in the realm of the show’s vocabulary. It was very cool. I liked it, and I loved being that guy for as long as I got to do it.”

 NHL host
Jon Hamm's opening monologue from The NHL 100

.....Many of the celebrities in attendance were huge hockey fans themselves, including Hamm. The actor felt “humbled” to host such a monumental evening for the NHL, as he has been going to hockey matches for as long as he can remember.
I’ve been going to games since I was probably six or seven years old,” Hamm said. “My dad used to take me to the old arena, because back in the ’70s tickets weren’t that expensive and we could just go on a whim.”
The St. Louis native also noted superstar Brett Hull as his favorite player growing up.
“[Hull] was right in the wheelhouse when I was growing up and a young hockey fan. There were a lot of great players on the [St. Louis] Blues. I had a lot of favorites growing up but ‘Hully’ was the face of the Blues for the longest.”
Though Hamm is no stranger to the screen, he is still a novice when it comes to playing host. However, he stated that the evening is about “the players and their feats” and feels confident that NHL fans would approve of the list compiled by the league.
“If we were to get a group of a thousand hockey fans, I would imagine they would agree on these 100 people,” he said.

.................................
Jon Hamm, a long-time St. Louis Blues fan, served as host for the evening and spoke about one particular player he admired most.
I do appreciate what Mario Lemieux has done. In staying not only on one team his entire career, but battling back from cancer and coming back and playing at such a high level and leading that team. I love all of the things that guy’s done,” said Hamm.....
Hamm spoke about his history with the NHL, saying, "I’ve been going to games since I was probably six or seven years old. I remember going to the games when you could smoke in the arena, and my dad was a smoker, that was weird, a really strange situation. I went to the Winter Classic earlier this month and it was fantastic. I have a lot of great memories of watching hockey."
Hamm was an entertaining host and his best line of the night, was when he took a shot at a legend from a different sport and said, “Tom Brady is terrific, but good luck deflating a hockey puck.”

  ................................................................
Hamm told Us Weekly at the NHL 100 Gala in Los Angeles on Friday, January 27, that it’s “always” tough watching himself on screen.
“It’s always weird. Because inevitably, you’re gonna think something looks terrible. Or is terrible,” he said. And unfortunately, it’s the internet that points those things out.”
“Very often, someone online will tell you that it was [terrible], usually behind an anonymous screen name,” he said. “I try to stay off the internet as it pertains to me.”
“No, I watch myself enough, I don’t need to. I don’t sit at home and obsess,” he added.
Although the AMC hit is still near and dear to fans’ hearts, Hamm has his eyes set on the future. He spoke about his new sci-fi film Marjorie Prime, which premiered at Sundance Film Festival, saying, “I don’t know what’s gonna happen to it, but I’m very proud of it.”
Later in 2017, he'll be seen in the action comedy Baby Driver...“I get to roll around and crash cars and shoot ‘em up. Fun stuff,” he quipped.

Hamm Referenced "Sergei" Ovechkin at NHL 100 Gala
........................................................................
Jon Hamm likes hockey. He’s a die-hard St. Louis Blues fan and has never been shy about it. With this weekend’s NHL all-star festivities happening in Los Angeles, it makes plenty of sense that the actor would be on hand to help the league celebrate by hosting its NHL 100 Gala, which honored the greatest players in the century-old history of the league at L.A.’s Microsoft Theater on Friday night.
Hamm couldn’t resist taking a shot at the Washington Capitals during the ceremony. And to make matters worse, he also flubbed Alex Ovechkin’s name, calling the Caps’ superstar “Sergei Ovechkin.”
While making a joke regarding the Toronto Maple Leafs’ high-flying rookie Auston Matthews, Hamm suggested that Matthews could break Wayne Gretzky’s all-time goal scoring record “before the Capitals don’t win another Stanley Cup.” Ouch.
The joke was met with a few laughs as well as some groans, which led to the mistaken name moment.
I would like to say to Sergei Ovechkin, I did not write that joke,” Hamm said, appearing quite visibly uncomfortable. The faux pas may have been easier to ignore had Ovechkin not lost his older brother as a child, especially painful considering that brother’s name was — you guessed it — Sergei.
It’s unlikely Hamm would have been aware of the Ovechkin family tragedy. And award show hosts tell bad jokes all the time (watch Jimmy Fallon at the Golden Globes earlier this month). Hamm did try to walk the mistake back later in the show, with another joke.
